So, I've got this story idea in my head.  Well, not an idea really, just a single scene involving a beautiful young man named Ganymede, a very confused roomate, some kitchen cabinets and cups.  Lots of cups.  Hundreds of cups.  Maybe thousands of them.

Don't know what the story is yet, but I know cups are involved.

Random Blurp - 25 Minutes

This is just a random blurp out of time and place that I wrote and never did anything with.  There's an awful lot of techno-babble bullshit, but I kind of like the flow of the piece.

__

"You followed me." Blue eyes flicked in his direction and slid forward again. "Why?"

"Eh. Got tired of watching our fearless leader and his girlfriend makin' googoo eyes at each other. Besides, you didn't look so good in there." Shaeffer stretched and leaned back against the bench in a comfortable slouch, long legs splayed in front of him. "I guess saving the day takes a lot out of you."

The biomech's lips twitched. "...I suppose you could say that."

"So you want to go to Medical, or what?"

"It wouldn't help."

"You need something, just say so, Roboto-"

The mech shook its head. "There is no cure for old age."

Shaeffer tsked, flicking a non-existent speck of dust off of his lapel. "What are you talking about? You're not old."

"Some would say that 500 years is a rather long span of time," the mech said dryly.

"Well, yeah - you're not exactly new out of the box, I'll grant you that, but you're hardly ready for the scrap heap."

_

"A machine is only useful as long as it can fulfill its purpose."

_

"The Commander's daddy just gave him a new car. He's gotta have jumper cables in there. How about we take it for a spin, hook you up, recharge the battery?"

"I do not think Commander Hammond's car would be able to generate the power necesary to recharge an elithium-dienylcarbotronic battery." The biomech almost smiled. "I also highly doubt that the Commander would approve of you appropriating his car."

"Borrowing his car."

" 'Borrowing' implies that the object in question would eventually be returned." The mech raised an eyebrow. "Would you...?"

"Yeah, right!" Shaeffer grinned. "I'd take that baby cross-country, see how fast she could go... Break some laws. Probably drive it into the desert near the Wastes and do spin-outs and pop wheelies until the tires blew. Then I'd ditch it".

"Charming. I'm sure the Commander would be ecstatic."

"He'd get over it in a week or so."

"I put the odds on that at 0.06%," the biomech said. "The point is a moot one, however. Recharging the battery would not help in any case. The damage I sustained while in the time bubble is irreparable. Cellular stability has been disrupted. Multiple system failure has also begun. My sensors indicate there is widespread damage to internal circuitry in addition to increasing organic decay, and this unit is no longer able to maintain remaining bio-functions."

"What the hell does all that mean?"

"It means that in approximately 25 minutes and 1.638 seconds, I will cease to exist," the mech said serenely.

Shaeffer stared. "What?"

"I said, 'It means that in approximately 25 minutes and-' "

"I heard what you said," Shaeffer said slowly, pushing himself off the bench. "I just can't believe you said what I heard. Let me get this straight. You're saying that you're...what? You're dying?"

"Correct."

"Ok, you got about 10 seconds to explain yourself." Shaeffer gritted his teeth. "Speak slowly and use small words. What the fuck happened with Hammond?"

"You must understand, the raw stuff of chaos is extremely corrosive. It has to be - that is its purpose, to break down the building blocks of time. Without it, all that was and is and ever would be would co-exist, and the universe simply...could not contain that. The result would be...bad.

"When the time bubble burst, there was no time to get the Commander out of the path of the chaos flow. It would have eaten him, reduced him back to the stuff of creation to be filtered back into the timestream. I...could not allow that. Shielding requires a great deal of energy to maintain, and the chaos flow...was far stronger than I anticipated. I was able shield the Commander for the duration of the flow. But only just."

"And what about you?"

The biomech said nothing, which was answer enough.

"Does he know what you did for him?"

"I wouldn't imagine so, since you are the only person I've told."

Shaeffer dropped back onto the bench. "You saved Hammond's ass. You're dying, and...you don't tell anybody?! You leave a party full of people and come out here to do it alone on a bench?"

"Correct."

"Why?"

The biomech cocked his head. "It seemed the appropriate thing to do."

Shaeffer blew out his breath and began to count down from ten, but only lasted until 8 before he exploded. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"

The mech watched him curiously. "I believe I just gave you the extensive list."

"That's not what I meant, and you damn well know it!" Shaeffer let his head fall back onto his shoulders, glaring into the night sky. "Shit. Shit"

"My primary function is to save human life, Lieutenant Shaeffer," said the biomech softly. "There was no choice."

"I... I know. I know," Shaeffer growled, looking away. "It just...sucks."

The biomech sighed. "I would agree with that sentiment."

Under Construction -

Yes, I am aware that my brand new blog is currently a piece of crap.  However, it is a semi-functioning piece of crap, and for this I am grateful.
